Pigeons have been part of human history as far back as the earliest recorded civilization some 5,000 years ago. They've been depicted in paintings and clay tablets, carried messages durings wars, released during weddings, and even considered sacred in some religions. Pigeons, particularly Homers, can reach close to 90mph and have been known to fly over 1,000 miles back to their loft using the Earth's magnetic field to navigate. They can recognize faces and while humans are known to possess triple color vision, pigeons are able to distinguish up to five spectral bands. Some people may consider them as a nuisance, but pigeons have been around and have coexisted with humans. They are not pests, they're locals who need our support.
